Quick leadership tip: Leading Inclusive Hybrid Teams

Hybrid working can feel messy, and it’s a recipe for discomfort, angst… and bias! You’ve probably heard of unconscious bias… but you may be less familiar with proximity bias.  Getting to know what it is, how it shows up, and how to mitigate it will be crucial to build  inclusive hybrid workplaces.  

For instance, did you know research tells us that those who work in the office, with more time  face to face with their manager: 

  • Get higher performance ratings than those who work remotely.  
  • Are given more interest work assignments. 
  • Are promoted faster. 

You can’t ‘train away’ your bias, but you can build your awareness of it and learn to challenge  your assumptions. For instance, it can be powerful to ask yourself, “what evidence do I have for  that belief?”
